History
ACWC was established by a resolution of the County Commission in 2007, after several years of public meetings. The volunteer Board meets monthly to further the Council's goals. One of the original goals for the Arts Council was to help create a percent of sales tax for the arts; this work resulted in the current Washington County RAP tax, similar to successful tax initiatives in Salt Lake and Cache Counties. similar to Salt Lake’s ZAP (Zoo Arts & Parks) Tax.
Over the last few years ACWC was lucky enough to receive support from the County as well as a majority of the County Municipalities, the City of St. George and the Utah Division of Arts and Museums through the State Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts. Two years of Professional Development Workshops/Lectures were offered to artists throughout the County on a variety of topics, including Marketing via Social Media, Grantwriting, Individual Donor Campaigns, and Business Administration among others.
